Inside the inner-city cottage lovingly renovated by Casey Scott, brother of Bonnie from Three Birds Rennovations

This week on Home Life Series join us for a tour of Casey Scott from Kinwolf Projects' latest renovation; an inner city Balmain cottage.

It’s no secret that renovating is in Casey’s blood. His sister Bonnie co-founded the renovating empire Three Birds Renovation and he is one half of the successful design and renovation company, Kinwolf Projects. Now, the relationship has come full circle with Three Birds featuring the white weatherboard cottage Casey has been lovingly restoring.

With urban concrete flooring, warm timber cabinetry, and statement-coloured trims - this place is the perfect mix of heritage charm and modern sophistication. Don't miss out – come along for the tour!

Can you tell us about the work you do at Kinwolf? How did you get into the business of renovating and was it always something you loved doing?

My history with renovating started with our parents flipping houses when I was younger. They moved a lot and I loved seeing the process of something old and rundown turn into something beautiful. I started Kinwolf Projects in 2017 with two friends and began to flip houses as a business and after their first few houses, we'd built up a bit of a name and began working on client projects. The rest is history!

We love the way you’ve combined heritage details with modern touches in this property! Talk us through the vision / concept for the renovation?

The roof was popped to add another bedroom and two bathrooms upstairs. Downstairs there’s a brand new designer kitchen, a cleverly concealed combined powder room and laundry under the stairs and a fabulous alfresco entertaining space, ready for a new family to enjoy.

We love the mix of urban concrete flooring with warm timber cabinetry and statement-coloured trims, honouring the weatherboard cottage’s heritage with sophisticated contemporary touches.

This is a hard one (because we LOVE it all) but what are your three favourite features in the house and why?

My three favourite features are:

- The mondo grass out the back weaving through big concrete blobs. This creative feature really softens up this whole back yard, I just love it! We didn’t actually know what it was going to look like, now it feels like we’ve taken the landscaping to a whole new level.

- I simply can’t go past the kitchen. With such a small inner-city space, we really had to be smart with every inch of the house. The curved telostone bench top is a great size for this kitchen/living area and really softens the look and feel of the home, especially with concrete floors.

- The custom arch doors are easily one of my favourite features in the home. Although it wasn't an easy decision, we decided at the last minute to paint them in the beautiful Magnitude from Dulux. This soft pink really brings a bit more class to the house and ties perfectly with the soft furniture in the living room.
