Meet Joanna Beecher - massage therapist, educator and co-founder of About Time Bath House, a serene sanctuary nestled in coastal Torquay. With over 15 years in the wellness space and a passion for holistic care, Joey’s approach blends deep knowledge, intuitive practice and a genuine love for nurturing others.
As we settle into the slower pace of winter, we’re all about celebrating the little things that bring comfort and calm. In our Daily Rituals series, we caught up with Joey to find out what wellness looks like for her day-to-day, and the small seasonal rituals that help her feel grounded and nourished.
My name is… Joey.
The first thing I do when I wake up is… Cuddle.
My top go-to beauty product is… Living Skin Cleansing Oil.
My morning skincare routine is… Double cleanse - Living Skin Cleansing Oil & MV Cream Cleanser, MV Rose Mist, Elementals Bio Placenta, Elementals Phyto-Fusion, and Living Skin Moisturiser.
My first drink of the day is… Bone Broth.
My go-to moment of mindfulness looks like… Soaking up the sun, when it’s out, even just for a small moment to pause and re-set.
My favourite way to move my body is… Yoga (I need more in my life)
A small joy I’ve been savouring lately… Beach walks at addis.
After a long day, I switch off by… I might be judged, but reality TV is my go-to to not use my brain after a massive day! Or a more nourishing level, a bowl of kitchari by the fire!
My ultimate routine at the Bathhouse is...
1. Hot Rock Sauna.
2. Hot water rinse in the shower.
3. Cold plunge jump (11 degrees, 2 mts deep)
4. Hot magnesium Pool.
5. Cold Plunge - this time, i try and stay a little bit longer.
6. Steam room - deep intensional breathing to really open up through my diaphragm.
7. Cold plunge (dopamine hit!)
I’m also a massive fan of hanging out in the chillout zone, sipping on chlorophyll water and simply just relaxing!
Your favourite calming scent… Shemana Heart Mist mixed with palo Santo.
A book, podcast or playlist I’ve been loving lately… I just finished Tuesdays with morrie, and oldie but a goodie.
The last thing I do before bed is… Cuddle x
Thank you so much for welcoming us into About Time Bath House. For those who are not familiar with the bathhouse, can you please tell us a little about who you are and what led you to open About Time?
I’m Joey. I’ve been working in the wellness industry for over 15 years, ever since founding STILL Beauty. My background is in massage therapy, and over the years I’ve been fortunate to treat clients, train other practitioners, and consult within the field.
Through a shared passion for education and holistic care, I connected with Stacey Burt, founder of Little Company. Stacey specialises in facials, and our philosophies around wellness aligned right away. Our businesses naturally evolved alongside each other, and when an opportunity arose in Torquay—thanks to our now business partner Ed—it felt like the perfect time to join forces and expand what we offered.
That’s where the idea for About Time Bath House really began.
About Time is such a beautiful and intentional space, what was the vision behind creating it, and what do you hope people feel or experience when they walk through the doors?
Our vision was a place that leaned into the experience we already knew how to create through treatments, a place that feels both familiar and unexpected. We designed the bathhouse to be flexible and intuitive, so every visit can be shaped by your own rhythm: sometimes quiet and solitary, sometimes social and spirited.
The experience is centred around different interactions with the elements, the textures, sounds, and scents — but also enlivened by the rawness of cold plunges, open air, and still moments between. It’s about feeling fully here, fully awake, and deeply cared for.
Bathing is an ancient ritual, deeply tied to land and place, so we wanted About Time to feel rooted in our own backyard rather than borrowed from elsewhere.
Winter can be a tricky time for our skin. With your experience in holistic skincare, skin treatments, and education, are there any rituals, treatments or ingredients you turn to for keeping your skin hydrated and glowing during the colder months?
Winter can be a bit of a balancing act—it’s a season that naturally calls for slowing down and leaning into deeper nourishment, both inside and out. It’s the perfect time to embrace the Living Skin philosophy: supporting the skin gently, thoughtfully, and consistently.
During these colder months, that often means keeping things simple—hydration and protection are key. For most skin types, an oil cleanser is a must. It helps maintain the skin’s barrier while adding essential moisture.
One of my favourite winter rituals? LED light therapy—it’s such a soothing and effective way to support skin health. And honestly, nothing beats a good body scrub this time of year. Exfoliating helps shed dry, dull skin, and afterwards, I love soaking in our hot magnesium pools. It’s the ultimate way to hydrate, plump, and reset.
Right now, I’m all about body skin health—and the fact that magnesium helps stimulate collagen production? That’s just the cherry on top.
