From the Founders

CIAO, Founder’s Edit with Hayley Pannekoecke

Bask in the golden glow of an endless Italian summer. Welcome to CIAO, our newest collection inspired by rustic farmhouses, sun-warmed terracotta, olive groves and those long, lazy days where lunch somehow turns into dinner.

Think bold colour, garden-fresh prints, long lunches under the vines and a little bit of la dolce vita at home. It’s a collection about slowing down, gathering together and finding a little bit of joy in the everyday.

We sat down with our co-founder Hayley to talk all things CIAO — from the pieces she’s loving most, to her favourite Italian escape, the art of setting a colourful table and how she brings that holiday feeling home. Pour yourself a spritz and settle in.

Three words to describe the CIAO collection?

Long lunches. Bare feet. Spritzes.

What was the first piece from CIAO that stole your heart?

I absolutely love the Popcorn Stripe Linen bedding paired back with our Golden Yellow Linen. It has that perfect golden Italian glow and the yellow running through it gives it warmth, almost like it’s been sitting in the sun.

If you could escape to Italy tomorrow, where would you go?

Turquoise water, white sand, something delicious packed for lunch and absolutely nowhere else to be. I’m very happy setting up camp at the beach for the entire day. Towels, snacks, spare swimmers, books, more snacks. Once I’m there, I’m not moving.

That’s my idea of heaven.

What’s your must-have first purchase from CIAO?

The Lobster Fan Club Terry beach collection, hands down. Built for big days out and this print just screams summer. I love anything that can be thrown into a beach bag, covered in sand, dragged around all summer and still look fabulous.

What does your perfect summer lunch look like?

A big table outside, lots of friends, fresh salads, tomatoes, good bread, something bubbly and absolutely no plans afterwards.

We’re a food-obsessed family, so food is always a big part of our holidays. I love when lunch turns into afternoon drinks and suddenly it’s dinner time. Simple, perfect, delicious.

What’s your secret to making a home feel like it’s on holiday?

For me, it’s surrounding yourself with things that transport you somewhere else. Our home is full of objects we’ve collected over the years, old finds, things we’ve brought back from holidays, little mementos and keepsakes that instantly take me back to a place or a moment.

I love mixing those in with beautiful things we use every day, coloured glassware, a big flowing linen tablecloth, flowers on the table. Then put some music on and you’ve completely changed the mood of the house. You don’t need to do much, it’s about creating that feeling of being somewhere you love.

What piece are you most excited to bring into your own home this season?

Our Primo Dinner Plate Set is definitely coming home with me. I love pieces that have that collected feel and one of a kind.

These hand painted ceramics have so much artisanal character, and because each piece has those little variations, it feels really special. It’s colourful, easy and made for living — exactly what I love about CIAO.

How do you want people to feel when they bring CIAO into their home?

I want it to feel warm, welcoming and a little bit like you’ve escaped on holiday.

CIAO is about enjoying the everyday — making the table colourful, putting your favourite things out and creating those little moments that make home feel really special. More than anything, I want people to have fun with it. There are no rules!
