A Morning Made for Mum with Hannah Spilva

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the women who fill our homes with heart — the mother figures making memories, chasing dreams, and showing up every day with love (and snacks) to spare.

We took a little trip down to the Mornington Peninsula to spend the morning with Hannah Spilva, mum of two, founder of flower delivery legends LVLY, and all-round creative powerhouse with a talent for turning brilliant ideas into beautiful, joy-sparking brands.

From giggles with her little ones to stories about business, balance, and big dreams, we soaked up the magic of motherhood in all its messy, meaningful glory and got a sneak peek at what’s next for this inspiring mama (spoiler: it’s good).

Hi Hannah, thanks for welcoming us down to the beautiful Mornington Peninsula! For those who don’t know you, can you introduce yourself, tell us who’s lucky enough to live here with you, and how you found this dreamy home by the beach?

I moved to Australia from the UK almost 15 years ago. I came here to travel and enjoy the beachside lifestyle for a year and accidentally ended up marrying an Aussie, having two kids and starting a business.

After selling LVLY in 2022 it was a chance to reset so we relocated from Prahran to beautiful Mount Martha and bought our forever home. We had been exploring beachside properties for years and when we stumbled across Biscayne I fell head over heels. The character and energy of the house was magnetic - it’s full of colour, natural light and texture, but the absolute clincher for me was the handful of fireplaces scattered throughout the property.

I’m a total sucker for a real fire - the crackling warmth reminds me of growing up in England and escaping the freezing temperatures outside. It’s a magical home to create family rituals and rocking chair memories with our kids.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced juggling motherhood, building businesses, and everything in between? Have you had to push past any stereotypes about what mums can (or can't) do? Did you have a community of women around you to lean on when times got tough?

I feel like it’s all one long winding road of big challenges and small triumphs. Like most women, I have found juggling motherhood alongside a career incredibly difficult at times and I’ve had many moments of overwhelm and burnout. The thing that keeps me ticking is that I love what I do.

I’m career driven, I'm creative and I’m a problem solver by nature, so in every challenge that’s thrown my way I seem to find a little glimmer of opportunity and curiosity that pushes me forward. I’ve never felt like there was anything I couldn’t do or couldn’t achieve simply because I’m a woman, but I do think the notion of ‘having it all’ is an unhealthy ideology.

I think you can have it all over the course of a lifetime but I don’t think you can have it all at the same time (at least not whilst maintaining your health and sanity). I’ve learned over the years to give myself a break, to accept that you can’t give all parts of your life 100% at the same time and that a hot shower and glass of red wine at the end of the day solves most things. I’ve also learned to rely much more on the women closest to me, I’ve become more comfortable with accepting help and I’ve even learned how to ask for it!

You’ve mentioned a new business venture on the horizon. Can you share a little about what’s coming up, and how it fits into your busy life as a mum and entrepreneur?

I’ll be launching Done in June this year. I’ve taken a leap from blooms into beauty to create another brand that’s dedicated to making people feel good. This time it’s about helping people elevate some of the more mundane elements of their beauty routine.

As a brunette who’s been battling grey hair since my early 30’s, the most expensive and time intensive part of my beauty regime is my monthly trip to the hairdressers to get my roots re-touched. I used to love salon appointments in my twenties and early thirties but when you’re time poor,  you start to resent the expense and inconvenience of this kind of mundane, ongoing beauty maintenance. I wanted to create a salon quality home hair colour product that was easy to use, fast to develop and would save people time and money without compromising on beautiful results.

So, I’ve spent the last two years working with hair colour experts in Europe to develop a range of salon formula root re-touch products designed to transform hair colour resentment into hair colour contentment. I’ve used nothing except Done hair colour products on my own hair for the last 18 months and I’ve never been happier with the results. I can’t wait to help others save time and money by giving them a new way to get their roots done.

We’re so excited to be teaming up with you for Mother’s Day, bringing a burst of brightness into homes everywhere. With the big day just around the corner, how does the Kip&Co x LVLY collaboration tie into your vision for celebrating mums? And, more importantly, how are you planning to celebrate yourself?

I’m incredibly proud of the role that LVLY plays in helping people celebrate milestones with their loved ones and our collaboration with Kip&Co is the perfect way to extend our gifting range and treat women to beautiful pieces from another well loved Australian brand.

Whilst building LVLY, all of my Mother’s Days were spent in the warehouse knee deep in flowers and gift boxes. It was always a case of embracing the chaos and knuckling down to get thousands of orders out on time to ensure we made the days of mums across Australia. It was bittersweet - great for business but sad for the personal sacrifice of not spending Mother’s Day with my children (which is especially hard when they’re babies and you’re missing the ‘first’ of everything).

It makes me all the more grateful to spend Mother’s Day with my children these days! I plan on having a very lazy morning with cuddles and coffee in bed followed by our family ritual of Sunday pancakes. I’ve been dropping hints to my husband about the Kip&Co Sapphire robe as a perfect Mother’s Day treat so with a bit of luck I might be adorning it whilst enjoying family breakfast!

This Mother’s Day feels extra special, especially seeing the beautiful bond you share with your daughter. What does being a mum mean to you, and how has your relationship with your daughter shaped your own journey through motherhood?

Motherhood is everything to me, it’s helped me become the truest version of myself, which is the most precious gift. Through my children, I’ve come to understand that it’s not just me shaping them—they are shaping me, too. In their unfiltered honesty, I find clarity. In their boldness to question, to push boundaries, and to exist unapologetically, I see a reflection of the freedom I wish I'd always given myself.

Both my son and daughter are beautiful contradictions. My son is tall and strong for his age but his character is gentle, kind and empathic. My daughter is small in stature but a force of nature. She is cute and sweet yet fiercely independent and expresses herself with unapologetic certainty. They both challenge me—in the best way—to see that softness and strength are not at odds and that speaking your truth is an act of courage not defiance. Their comfort in being exactly who they are has inspired me to do the same. I try to be more like my kids everyday.
