A Colourful Look Inside Posey Broomhall’s Brighton Family Home

This week on our Home Life Series, we’re stepping inside a Brighton beauty that’s as colourful and charming as its owner, Posey Broomhall - hairdresser, businesswoman, and founder of Harpo Hair. Together with her husband Marc, their three kids, and their pup Frankie, Posey has spent eight years transforming their 1930s art deco house into a layered, personality-packed family home. Think unicorn explosion meets vintage English cottage, and yes, it’s every bit as joyful as it sounds.

From bold wallpapered ceilings to perfectly imperfect kids’ rooms, Posey’s home is proof that family-friendly doesn’t mean compromising on style. Every corner tells a story, from heirloom inspiration passed down through generations to playful pops of colour that make the house feel truly alive. Keep reading to see how Posey balances her love for pattern, texture, and timeless design with the realities of a busy household (plus, her top tips for creating a home that feels loved, lived in, and oh-so-you).

Hi Posey, thank you so much for welcoming us into your beautiful home! For those who don’t know you yet, can you introduce yourself, tell us who’s lucky enough to live here with you, and how you found this dreamy home.

Hi, I’m Posey! I’m a hairdresser and the founder of Harpo Hair, with two beautiful salon locations in Brighton. Alongside that, I started a side business called Bompies, where I created the ultimate shower cap that every girl needs.

At home, life is just as full! I live in Brighton with my husband Marc, our three children — twins Archie and Dusty, and our 4-year-old Kit — plus our dog Frankie. We’ve been in our 1930s art deco home for eight years, gradually renovating it, and finally finished last year.

You’ve had an incredible journey as a hairdresser and business owner over the past 15 years. How has your career influenced the way you live, style your home, and express your creativity in your everyday environment?

I’ve always been creative and had a love for colour. Growing up, my mum would do arts and crafts with me every school holiday — she was very creative herself and especially talented at needlepoint. Hairdressing felt like the perfect way for me to combine that creative side with my dream of owning my own business.

As I grew up, I naturally leaned towards the classics — whether it was classic hairstyles, timeless fashion, or vintage-inspired movies and TV shows. That love of all things vintage has definitely influenced both my home life and my business.

My salons reflect my personality — full of colour, pink tones, and femininity — while my home is just as playful, with pops of colour everywhere, almost like a unicorn explosion, yet still carrying that sense of old-world charm you’d find in an English town.

Recently, I was nominated for Victorian Hairdresser of the Year after entering a collection of six images — all inspired by these very passions for creativity, colour, and vintage influence.

Are there any favourite spaces or corners in your home that you particularly love? What makes them special, and how do they reflect your lifestyle and personality?

My favourite space in our house is definitely our bedroom — it’s my happy place. Whether it’s reading at night in bed with Marc beside me as we chat about our day, or enjoying a lazy Sunday morning coffee with cuddles from the kids, it’s where I feel most content.

Most nights we all end up in our bed together. It can be full and hectic, and I don’t always get the best sleep, but it feels safe and wonderful. I especially love looking up at the wallpaper on the ceiling — you can’t feel sad when you’re surrounded by such colourful, joyful patterns.

Your home feels like such a reflection of you. How would you describe your interiors, and who or what has been your biggest design inspiration?

As I’ve mentioned before, my home feels a little like a unicorn exploded — colourful and playful — but with touches of vintage English cottage charm. I want my interiors to feel warm, homely, and full of personality.

My biggest design inspiration has definitely been my family. My mum had a small but very stylish flat when I was growing up, and it always felt so comfortable and welcoming. The same was true of my nan and my auntie — they each had beautifully decorated homes, but they never lost that homely feeling.

One of my biggest influences has been my cousin Deb. I spent so much time at her house as a child, teenager, and young adult. She introduced me to colour, fabrics, and layering patterns, and I really took her style and made it my own. Deb also introduced me to my favourite interior designer, Anna Spiro, and I’m forever taking inspiration from her work.

I’m so grateful for those influences — they shaped my love of colour, pattern, and vintage charm. It’s become part of who I am, and something I’m known for not only at home, but also through my business.

Designing a home that works for a family while staying true to your own style is no small feat.

How have you approached creating a functional, family-friendly home, including your kids’ spaces, while still keeping it reflective of your aesthetic and personal style?

We took years to work out our floor plan. I always had a strong vision for the interiors I wanted, and Kris from A Blind Pash Interiors helped me bring that to life. Marc and I spent so much time planning because we wanted the house to be kid-friendly, but also a place where we could entertain and have our own space.

We love having friends over, so that was really important to us. From the beginning, our approach was to design a home that felt layered, colourful, and full of personality — with fabrics, painted walls, and wallpaper — while still making sure the kids felt comfortable and at home. There are marks on the chairs, couches, and rugs, but that’s real life with three children. To us, the house doesn’t need to look perfect; it needs to feel lived in and loved.

Creativity plays a huge role in both your work and your home life. How do you bring that creativity into your home, through interiors, styling, or little everyday rituals that make the space feel uniquely yours?

There are little things in my everyday life that bring my creative side into our home, along with small rituals that make it feel like our own special bubble. I’ve always loved fashion, and while I’m usually in black at work, at home I’m all about colour. I love dresses and big flowing skirts, and I like to create looks that feel both classic and true to my personal style. Whether it’s a simple summer dress or an outfit for a wedding, I always want to feel like myself.

The same goes for the kids. When they’re not in uniform, I can’t resist dressing them in cute, matching outfits — especially my girls. I love them in smocked floral dresses with bows in their hair, something with a bit of that English-style charm. I’ll admit, everyone is starting to push back and pick their own clothes now, but while I can, I’ll keep choosing sweet, coordinated outfits for them.

You will never catch an overhead light on in this house — lamps are everywhere and always on. I love the way it feels; my mum’s flat was always like that, and it just makes me feel like we’re in our own little bubble. My favourite afternoons and nights are when the kids are freshly showered, in their matching PJs, all cuddled up together on the couch.

Running two salons while raising a family is no small feat! How do you carve out time for yourself at home, and what’s next for your family and your businesses? Are there any exciting projects or developments on the horizon that you’re looking forward to?

Life is busy and our house often feels a little wild — kids running around, something always happening. I honestly love it that way, but I also really treasure the quiet moments when it’s just me.

On Mondays the salon is closed, the kids are at school or kinder, and I get the house to myself. That’s when I put on a “crappy” TV show I’ve probably watched a thousand times (right now it’s Gossip Girl), fold the washing, and catch up on a bit of work.

At the moment, I’m also starting to plan out my biggest creative project yet — my second time entering a creative collection for Victorian Hairdresser of the Year  —and I can’t wait to share my vision. At Harpo, we’ve been really focused on getting our name out there and sharing more of what we do. I’m so lucky to have a fantastic business partner, Amanda, and altogether we’re always working on every little aspect of the business — from building staff morale to creating the best possible client experience.

As a family, we know that one day we’ll outgrow this house, but for now, we’re focused on enjoying it. We especially love Christmas — it’s big in our house — and I get so much joy from decorating. Everyone’s already on the countdown!
